Charming antique perfume bottle from the late 19th century, made of clear cut crystal overlaid with cobalt blue glass. The sophisticated and intricate cutting evokes the craftsmanship of Baccarat or Saint-Louis glassworks from the same period. The striking contrast between the clear crystal and deep blue overlay creates a beautiful play of light and shadow.
The bottle is topped with a screw cap made of silver, stamped with a French maker’s lozenge hallmark, confirming its authenticity and period manufacture. The twisted and ribbed form of the glass reflects the eclectic and emerging Art Nouveau style of the late 1800s.
This elegant small bottle was originally intended to hold concentrated perfumes or precious essences. It could also have been used for aromatic salts (smelling salts), which were commonly carried in such containers in the 19th century to revive faintness. The secure screw cap made it ideal for travel in a toiletry case or handbag.
